KSSR - Primary School
(Years 1 – 6)
The education system in Malaysia is overseen by the Ministry of Education (MOE). Primary education starts from year 1 to year 6, and accepts children aged 7 to 12 years. Malay, English, Mathematics and Science are compulsory subjects in the Malaysian education system.
KSSR is a holistic educational transformation in line with the existing school curriculum. This involves changes in the organization, content, pedagogy, time allocation, assessment methods, materials and curriculum management in schools.

Primary school level one (years 1 to 3) focuses on the mastery of the 4M (reading, writing, counting and reasoning) as well as the basic skills of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), socio-emotional, spiritual, physical, cognitive, attitude and value development. Level two of primary school (years 4 to 6) focuses on strengthening and applying 4M, basic ICT skills, socio-emotional, spiritual, physical, attitude and value development.

KSSM - Secondary School (Form 1 – 5)
Lower secondary education (Form 1 – 3) is open to students aged 13 to 15 years. They are given exposure in various fields of knowledge by using the national language as the main medium of instruction. Upper secondary education (Levels 4 - 5) is specifically for students aged 16 to 17 years. Students can stream on art and science or a combination of them in preparation for continuing their education to higher education or employment.
At the end of Form 5, students will sit for the Malaysia Certificate of Education (SPM) exam before completing their studies at secondary level. SPM is equivalent to O-Level and GCSE exams.
KSSM was introduced in secondary schools in line with the need to make the national curriculum more holistic and relevant parallel with the needs of the 21st century. In the 21st century, the country needs human capital that thinks critically, creatively and innovatively so that it can contribute to the country and be competitive at the global level.
KSSM aims to produce students who excel in thinking skills, communication, teamwork, flexible leadership, self-directed initiative, information and communication technology, entrepreneurship, lifelong learning and adaptability.
